Terms of Use

Last updated: 13 July 2026

These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your use of blacklettersqe.com and the BlackLetter service (the "Service"). BlackLetter is operated by a sole trader based in the United Kingdom ("we", "us", "our"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

1. What BlackLetter is

BlackLetter is an independent online revision platform for the SRA's Solicitors Qualifying Examination Part 1 (SQE1), covering FLK1 and FLK2. It provides practice questions, flashcards, mock assessments, and AI-generated explanations.

BlackLetter is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA), Kaplan, or any official SQE assessment provider. "SQE1", "FLK1", and "FLK2" are used only to describe the exam our content helps you prepare for.

2. Eligibility and your account

You must be at least 18 years old to use the Service. You are responsible for keeping your login details secure and for all activity under your account. Please tell us promptly at support@blacklettersqe.com if you believe your account has been accessed without your permission.

3. Free and Pro plans

The Service offers a Free plan and a paid Pro plan.

We may change the features included in each plan over time. Where a change materially reduces what you have paid for, we will act reasonably and, where appropriate, give notice.

4. Pricing, billing, and trials

5. Cancellation and refunds

6. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

We may suspend or terminate accounts that breach these Terms.

7. Content you upload (notes feature)

If you upload study notes or other material, you are responsible for that content. You confirm that you have the right to upload it and that doing so does not infringe anyone else's copyright or other rights. Uploaded material is used only transiently to generate your own questions, flashcards, and explanations; it is not stored long-term, reused, or added to BlackLetter's question bank. Do not upload anything you are not permitted to use.

8. AI-generated content and accuracy

Explanations, flashcards, questions, and notes analysis may be generated with the help of AI and can contain errors or omissions. BlackLetter is a revision aid, not legal advice and not a substitute for official SRA materials, qualified tuition, or independent legal research. We do not guarantee that the content is complete, current, or error-free, and we do not guarantee any particular result in the SQE1 or any other exam. Always verify important points against authoritative sources.

9. Intellectual property

All BlackLetter content, branding, and software (other than content you upload) belong to us or our licensors and are protected by law. We grant you a personal, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the Service for your own exam preparation. You may not use it for any other purpose without our permission.

10. Availability

We aim to keep the Service running reliably but do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free availability. We may modify, suspend, or discontinue parts of the Service, and may perform maintenance, from time to time.

11. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect or consequential loss, or for any exam outcome, arising from your use of the Service. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law (such as for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud). Where our liability cannot be excluded but can be limited, it is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.

12. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will change the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.

13. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction, subject to any consumer protection rights you have in your country of residence.
